COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Description

Theories of human behaviour and personality development; HIV/AIDS, local and global overview:  Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), HIV antibodies, viral load, window period, acute retroviral syndrome, chronic HIV infection, HIV/AIDS prevalence and incidence, mortality statistics, impact on demography, economy, households, health care systems, family structures. Prevalence, ethology and pathology of HIV/AIDS; Impact of HIV/AIDS on family, community & society; Gender stereotyping, stigmatization; Intervention strategies: treatment, control, prevention, nutritional care, counselling and support. The role of gender in management of HIV/AIDS; Evaluation of recent health programmes including nutrition education projects and schemes
